The attorney general serves at the pleasure of the people. For too long, however, the office of the attorney general has been used to serve Catherine Masto for her own political gains. She has refused to fight for the people of the state of Nevada, she has refused to undertake action specifically requested by the governor and such failures will no longer be tolerated
1. Regulatory Reform.
Too much governmental regulation is harmful. Nevada has over 300 administrative boards and regulatory agencies. These agencies are spewing forth regulation without pause, a significant amount of which is vague, ambiguous and overly broad. Despite a law that requires agency review of these regulations ever 10 years, such review rarely, if ever, happens. By working with the administrative agencies to review, clean up and streamline their regulations, Nevada will be able to save economic resources, decrease regulation and make life in Nevada a more attractive place for businesses and citizens, alike
2. Accountability in Politics.
While the Attorney General race is partisan, the office should not be. Notwithstanding, Ms. Masto has refused to hold democrats accountable for political ethics. More concerning, there is a huge loophole in the law for the Attorney General, where the AG is responsible for prosecuting herself for legal violations. I will make it a priority to hold all public officials accountable for improper conduct, including working with the legislature to close the loopholes which allow public officials to get away with illegal behavior.
3. Immigration Enforcement.
Arizona has been the first state to address the failure of the federal government to enforce federal immigration laws. Working with the legislature, I will pursue legal options for Nevada to address our enormous illegal immigrant problem. My efforts, however, will be focused on a tailored solution that meets Nevada's needs and respects our state specific economies, such as tourism. In doing so, I will advocate for increased enforcement against Americans who are engaged in the self-serving practice of hiring this population.
4. Consumer Advocacy.
Financial crimes cannot be allowed in our state. Issues such as predatory lending and senior abuse are a leading factor to our state's economic and social problems. I will break the silence that has fallen over the office of the attorney general and, in doing so, fight against these social injustices.
5. Equal Protection for all Citizens.
The Constitution does not single out any legal resident from the protections it affords - neither should the state of Nevada. In private practice, I worked diligently to ensure all legal residents have access to due process and equal opportunities. I will bring this constitutional principal with me to the office of the attorney general.
6. Healthcare Regulatory Reform.
Healthcare delivery in Nevada has failed. Nevada has one payer who controls approximately 70% of the market. The board of medical examiners is defunct and arbitrarily and capriciously disciplines undeserving physicians, forcing good doctors out of the state. Hospitals cannot even provide access to basic emergency care. These are issues, which I have tackled successfully in private practice and will be issues, which will be a priority for me as attorney general.
